Coffee Hour

The influence of Saint Benedict of Nursia (480-547 CE) and his Rule on Christian spirituality is difficult to overstate. Few texts outside Scripture itself have shaped the devotional, moral, intellectual, and communal life of Western Christianity so deeply or so enduringly. Benedict’s genius lay not in theological originality, but in spiritual wisdom: he created a form of life in which ordinary human beings could steadily grow into holiness through prayer, stability, humility, work, and community.

You are invited to join Fr. Emil for a morning with St. Benedict on Saturday, July 11th, the Feast of St. Benedict. The morning will feature prayer, a brief overview of Benedict’s life and time, and an introduction to Benedictine spirituality. Copies of Foundations of Benedictine Spirituality: A Practical Guide to Stability, Prayer, and the Ordinary Sacred, an easy-to-read guide, will be available for prayerful meditation by participants. For those unable to attend, Coffee Hour at 9:00 on Sunday, August 2nd, will offer a shortened presentation. Everyone is welcome at one or both. Registration in advance to sarum99@gmail.com is appreciated for the Saturday session.
