Creation Care

O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Psalm 104:24

Blessing of the Animals

Oh God, Creator of heaven and earth, you allowed life to evolve, and you love the natural world: each plant and animal, each mountain and river, each ray of sunshine, wave of water, and breath of fresh air. In our beginning, you commanded us to care for your creation; open our eyes to see the goodness of the Earth; train our hearts to respect all creation as a gift from you; and shape our lives to behave in ways that are loving toward all creatures great and small, for you, God, made them all. Amen.

The Team

Blessing of the Animals

The Creation Care Team meets monthly on the 2nd Sunday from 11:15 to 12:15 in the library room. We have compiled two lists of environmental concerns we would like to address in both our church and in our community. These action items include issues and projects around recycling, care of our rivers and woodlands, declining biodiversity and care of all animals. We chose the book “How Can I Care for Creation?” by Stephanie McDyre Johnson as our guide. If you would like a copy of the book, there are still three available in the church office. Cost is $15.

On 1/15/26, Deacon Teri led a memorial service at Harmony Acres Equestrian Center in Loma. The Partingway is a short service honoring the human/animal bond and acknowledging the grief often felt at the loss of our animal companions. Over 30 staff and volunteers from Harmony Acres shared stories and pictures of the 10 animals the Center lost in 2025. Harmony Acres provides animal-assisted therapy for children and adults with disabilities, trauma, and at-risk youth, using horses and other rescued animals as therapeutic partners.

How you can make a difference

Recycling flexible plastics conserves resources, reduces waste, and decreases our environmental impact. By diverting plastics from landfills, we help preserve natural ecosystems and reduce the strain on raw materials.

Recycling flexible plastic films saves  8-23% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to manufacturing virgin flexible plastics.

Flexible plastics have played a significant role in packaging, protecting products, and reducing material demand. As its applications grow, it’s equally essential to recycle these materials to harness their full potential.

Before recycling your flexible plastics:

Wipe- A light wipe with a dry cloth to remove any residue works well.

Gather- Gather your items in a plastic bag or another container for a more efficient drop-off. Bringing in bulk saves time and supports better recycling practices.

Verify- Check the list of accepted items below before you bring something. This helps ensure your plastics are recycled correctly and not sent to landfill.

Tips to Know If Your Film Can Be Recycled:

Generally, if the plastic film can stretch or it has an equilateral triangle with resin codes 2 or 4 on it, it can be recycled. Still not sure? When in doubt, throw it out — this prevents contamination of the recycling stream.

Accepted for Recycling • Grocery Bags • Air pillows • Produce bags • Case wrap • Bubble wrap • Bread bags • Dry cleaning bags • Cereal bags • Ice bags • Food kit ice pack • Sandwich bags/Gallon bags

Can't Be Recycled • Frozen food bags • Chip bags • Salad bags • Candy wrappers • Soil/mulch bags • Paper-padded bags • Compostable films
