Sunday, August 2nd. St. Benedict & Benedictine Spirituality. The influence of Saint Benedict of Nursia (480-547 CE) and his Rule on Christian spirituality is difficult to overstate. Few texts outside Scripture itself have shaped the devotional, moral, intellectual, and communal life of Western Christianity (including our own Book of Common Prayer) so deeply or so enduringly. Benedict’s genius lay not in theological originality, but in spiritual wisdom: he created a form of life in which ordinary human beings could steadily grow into holiness through prayer, stability, humility, work, and community. You are invited to join Fr. Emil at 9:00 for a brief introduction to Benedict, his life and times, and the spirituality that has shaped Christians for over 1,500 years. Everyone is welcome.
